Entertainment Weekly's First Look At The Roomate

Loved 1992’s Single White Female? Then you’ll love 2010’s Leighton Meester-Minka Kelly thriller, The Roommate. Like Female, Roommate focuses on obsession: The film follows a college freshman (Meester) who develops an unhealthy fascination with her roommate (Kelly). For her role,Meester says she went method, researching mental illness with the help of psychologists and films like 1974’s A Woman Under the Influence. The actress tried to keep her distance from cast members — and a litter of kittens being used for the film — in order to retain her character’s level of emotional aloofness. “You would think that that idea of playing somebody who’s out of control or lost touch with reality is somehow fun, but it was to a point of discomfort,” the actress says. “[My character] is completely delusional and it’s definitely a cause of a chemical imbalance, so that wasn’t the easiest and most enjoyable thing. Even in her most normal moments, she’s genuinely a disturbed person. She had very abnormal wheels turning at all times.”

But will friends let Meester play psychiatrist, now that she’s garnered knowledge about mental health? Not quite, says Meester. “I don’t think they’ll want my advice after they see this movie.”

The College Years: Gossip Girl, Season Three Preview

FOR A TV SHOW about teenagers, the concept of “going to college” can be the kiss of death.

One Tree Hill skipped the idea of college entirely, choosing to fast-forward four years in the future for the Scott brothers and their associated lady loves. Dawson’s Creek just became more melodramatic and over-written as the Capeside crew took to Los Angeles and Boston for college. And the university-living years of “Boy Meets World,” with the trite episodes about married life and roommate bickering, completely lacked the charm of Cory’s, Shawn’s and Topanga’s middle and high school seasons.

So how fashionista-favorite Gossip Girl will deal with the college years is as much of a conundrum as any of the love triangles or parental drama that’s on the show itself. Read more…

Leighton Meester's Bloody Face Scares Cops

Actress Leighton Meester left traffic cops concerned and terrified when they stopped her for speeding and discovered she had blood all over her face.

The Gossip Girl star was dashing home after shooting new thriller The Roommate and had forgotten to wipe the fake goo off her face.

She says, “My character goes through a lot of problems… (and) I ended up with a lot of blood on my face… I looked like I had been in a cage fight.

“The police pulled me over… I might have been going a little fast… They were like, ‘How much have you had to drink?’ and when I said, ‘Nothing,’ they said, ‘Get out of the car’. They made me do the follow the finger and the whole thing and then they were like, ‘When does the movie come out?’

“I was just so out of it from the movie, I wasn’t drunk… I was in a weird state of mind, driving home and it was about three o’clock in the morning… I think they thought somebody had beaten me up.”
